Richland College
OVERVIEW
Richland College installed a new Green Wall in April 2010 as part of the roof deck adjoined to the cafeteria on the top floor of the building. Students and teachers can enjoy their lunch on this fully landscaped roof deck and enjoy the relaxing comfort that the Green Wall provides.

THE PROCESS
The wall was installed in three separate installations, one for the frames, another for the irrigation system and a third for the panels. The splitting apart of the installation was due to the construction schedule and an early winter that prevented the panel installation until the following spring.

MAINTENANCE
The wall has an automated winterization system with temperature sensors that detect when the temperature is close to freezing and then shuts down the watering program and starts up a drainage program for drains located below the watering valves so that all water will gravity drain out of the lines before any pipes freeze. The system also then detects when the weather has warmed up and automatically charges the drip lines with water. This type of irrigation is absolutely vital to the survival of the plants up until freezing and when the weather warms up again, without it, your green wall not fair well. Scaffolding is setup occasionally to access the wall for pruning and treatments.
