PNC Place
OVERVIEW
PNC Bank in Washington, DC is located at the prestigious address of 800 17th St, quite literally a block from The White House. This new building has a number of sustainable green features, including a lobby that is temperature regulated in the winter and summer through the temperature of the water in a waterfall feature in the lobby. The Green Wall is a localized air purification filter that sucks in VOC’s and dust from the air and releases clean Oxygen for us to enjoy. The plants were selected to suit the theme of the lobby which is very rectilinear in all aspects, including the waterfall temperature regulation system.

THE PROCESS
The installation took a full week to complete. Scaffolding was used to install the wall. One challenge was working around all the finishing trades on site and dealing with live plants on such a busy site. The staging area that was required to be provided unfortunately was not available and required a great deal of moving around of the plants which affected their health going in. As a result, about 5% of the plants had to be replaced immediately after installation, but all are growing well and have completely filled in at the time that this was written.
